World of Warcraft Item Upgrades

Item upgrades are a way to increase the stats of an item. Depending on the type of upgrade you choose, it may increase an item's Rarity or Mark Level, and also boost other stats.

Upgrades to equipment in The War Within requires a set number of Flightstones and Crests and each item comes with an upgrade track. Each upgrade increases the cost of the following one by a set amount.

Item Level

The value of an item's base stats increases when it is upgraded. The value is the sum of all of its leveled up advantages (attack magic attack, attack defense). Upgrades can be costly, dependent on who you employ and what you decide to do. This is due to the fact that many perks must be replaced in order for the item to get upgraded.

It can also be used as a gating requirement when waiting for dungeons, raids and scenarios. It can also be used as a gating requirement when waiting to queue for dungeons and raids and scenarios, and to limit the amount of PvP gear that a player can wear (since PvP is limited to an lower level). Players can view their average item level in their character sheet.

When deciding to purchase or sell gear players can look at the levels of the item. It's a good gauge of an item's worth and the amount of damage it is able to deal. Comparing items in a vendor's stock can be done using the item level.

The item level can be viewed by pressing the ALT key on a PC or using the left stick (L3) on XB1 and PS4. This will show the full description of the item, as well as its ilvl. You can also find it by hovering over an item and typing /itemlevel into chat.

There are several theories about how the item level is calculated. One theory is that the level is a number derived from a formula which calculates the value of an item's stats are worth. It is based on the fact that different advantages are valued differently and that gems in the sockets increase the item's value. This can lead to a calculated item's ilvl that is typically very close to Blizzard's actual level of the item.

Item Stats

The item's stats can be the difference between a good or bad item for players. This process will cost the player a certain amount of gold and items, which can be added to the upgrade gauge in the same way as other options for rerolling.

Players can choose to upgrade an item by a specific stat, or reroll affixes. The range of stats determined by the item's level. However every item will include at least one stat within that range unless they are a unique item, or a God Roll from a raid boss.

This is another thing that could be changed by introducing an option to upgrade the equipment without rolling the affixes or choosing which stats to enhance. But as with base equipment, this would have to be carried out on a per-item level, and the interface for comparing items will not show all the stats that could be that were gained or lost at the same time.

Item Luck

The Luck stat of a player increases the likelihood of locating items, the properties that are spawned by loot and the strength of these properties. It does not, however directly impact damage or the ability to upgrade items. It merely gives players the chance to acquire better gear in earlier waves, and is therefore more valuable in the initial game run as opposed to later ones, because most players value higher weapon scaling and defenses over damage gains.

Luck can also boost the chances of upgrading items at the Blacksmith. This is not to be confused with the Blacksmith’s overall upgrade chances, which increase with each level of the item. They can also be increased by using anti-materials, such as a Scroll of Strength and a Jewel of Blessing.

Armor, shields and weapons can spawn or be crafted using the Luck property, which has the default value of 40. These items can be upgraded with golden ingots, spined leather, or oak boards (depending on the material of the item) to grant a further +40 Luck, or to increase the Luck of an item, up to 140.

Additionally there are certain items, such as the Hollow weapon, which is infused with Hollow can be used to boost the damage of any damage-dealing skill by five percent. These items are available in the shop or created using the right ingredients.

Upgrades to items can be expensive and not all upgrades will succeed. Cash shop items can be used to increase the chances of success for an upgrade, or to protect players from losing their items if it does not work.

The rate of success of an upgrade can be seen in the Honing UI. The percentage represents the chance of completing the upgrade successfully and it can be increased by adding Additional Materials or Special Materials. The chance of success can only be increased so much, and the chance that the upgrade will fail cannot exceed 100%..

The success of an item upgrade is also affected by the Luck of that item. Each item has an initial success rate of 25% and each item with Luck increases that chance by five percent.

The item upgrade overlays are rendered above items in the inventory. This can obscure enchantment effects and other effects. If you wish to disable the upgrade overlays, the config option decoration.renderUpgradeOverlays can be set to False in the item upgrading Upgrader CORE client config.
