As Korea enters a post-crisis phase its development model appears to be changing. Those who are horrified by the cost of the old system support a comprehensive program of liberalization of capital, labor and product markets. On the other hand, those who support the old system are seeking to protect it by using nationalist sentiments and inflating fears about job losses.

Analysts and academics are divided about the extent to which Korea's development is influenced by these two trends. This article examines the five phases of Korea's development in terms of its political development including democratic democracies that are not liberal (1945-60) democratic autoritarianism (1961-72) authoritarian exceptionalism (1972-1877), democratic paternalism (2001-2002) and democratic participation (2002). Creationism in Korea

In South Korea, 26% of the population is Christian. The creationists have been successful in promoting their views among this group. A survey conducted in 2009 found that nearly a third of respondents did not believe in the theory of evolution. Of the respondents, 41% stated that there was not enough evidence from science to support the theory 39% claimed that the theory was in contradiction to their religious beliefs and 17% claimed it was difficult to understand. This level of doubt is similar to that in the United States, where a similar number of people are not convinced that humans evolved from less advanced forms of life.

In the past, most of the anti-evolution movement in Korea was focused on teaching college students and leading them to Christ. This event drew an impressive crowd of scientists, professors, and church leaders.

The success of this event led to the founding of the Korea Association of Creation Research (KACR) on January 31 1981. The event was widely covered in the national press, including The Korea Times, Chosun Ilbo and The Korea Times.

KACR began publishing a monthly newsletter called CREATION, which reported on its activities and published articles about scientific evidence for creationism. It also translated a number of films and slides from ICR and a few books on creationism that were published outside of Korea. KACR members lectured throughout the nation in universities and churches.

A KACR success was witnessed at the KAIST University in Seoul. There, enough students were interested in the idea of creationism that they raised enough money and support to put up an on-campus museum showing creationist models of fossils and other exhibits.
