Peugeot-2021-New-Black.pngHow to Replace an audi key Fob not Working G28 Engine Speed Sensor

In this video Charles the Humble Mechanic shows how to replace the G28 engine speed sensor. The sensor is located at the top of the transmission, above the flywheel ring gear. It transmits a signal to the ECU via a grey wire T55/49, then to the tachometer on the instrument cluster.

Hyundai.jpg1. Engine Speed Sensor

The sensor is located at the edge of the transmission just above the flywheel ring gear, the G28 Engine Speed Sensor sends signals to ECU pin T55/49 through a grey wire. The ECU then uses this information to control fuel, timig and boost. It also sends signals to the G5 Tachometer located in the instrument cluster.

The sensor is used to connect the G40 Camshaft position Sensor. The ecu needs to know when the crankshaft is TDC and where the camshaft is located so that it can activate spark and injectors according to the situation.

If this sensor fails to function, the ECU will display an error code P00160. This indicates that the Crank Shaft is out of sync with the Intake Camshaft. It could also be a sign of the possibility of a chain stretch or jumpy chain link in the upper chain. However, the error code won't appear on its own, without additional information from other sensors (G4 and G40).

Testing is a bit tricky since there are two connector pins, and they have different functions but the best way to test it is to measure resistance between the sensor and the ECU. When the sensor is operational, it should read about 1000 ohms. If you're experiencing issues with this component, look for signs of oil or coolant in the connector bay.

2. Injectors

Yesterday, while accelerating from the highway paytoll at a high speed I noticed a massive drop in power. It was as if the engine was running out of gas. Or, my injectors were not firing. I pulled out the spark plugs this morning, three were soaked with gasoline and the fourth was unclean. I put a piece of tissue over each injector hole and when I start the engine with no sparks, the ones that have gazoline pop right out. The 4th one stays shut. I checked the ground connection of ECU pins 14,30 and 48/55. I found 0ohm. I'm assuming that the issue is in another location.

I also tried to reset PID but without success. The car can start when the G28 is not plugged in and is running fine when it is connected but it still has intermittent misfire issues at higher RPM. The temperature sensor for coolant (G62) shows the wrong temp value -49c, even if I unplug it. Also i noticed that the gauge for oil pressure in the cockpit is showing 2 bar while the actual pressure is 0.0 when i rev the engine.

I'm not sure what to do. I think I've ruled everything else out. I'm afraid i may have missed something. If anyone has suggestions, please chime in! TIA!

3. Fuel Pump

The fuel pump in the g28 receives signals from the RPM sensor. The GM-style transmitter is identical to the G4 and both are used in the 80, 100, 200, UrS and RS2 cars which is why you can easily locate one at a junkyard or at a parts store. It is simple to test them - put your DMM in resistance mode and measure the resistance between pins 1 (with the bump on the connector end up) and 2 (2nd from the left on the black connector's side). They must be infinite ohms.

4. ECU

The ECU of our 20vt turbo (3B AAN ABY) engines must know both the speed and position of the crankshaft in order to make a decision about fuel injector Replacement Audi A3 Key timing, etc. To do this, it makes use of a Crank Position Sensor (G4) and an Engine Speed Sensor (G28). If you are experiencing issues with either one of these, the diagnostic scanner will show the codes that could trigger an engine shut down.

A failing G28 sensor can cause an inaccurate speed counter for the gearbox, a gearbox that shifts more quickly than normal, or an unfire when in gear. If you have any of these issues, it is likely that your sensor is failing and should be replaced. The good news is that they are very cheap and readily available particularly in the case of the Bosch unit which is what ours are. You can also choose the GM version of this component is also a good option.

5. Tachometer

A malfunctioning engine speed sensor could be a cause for a slew of problems in your vehicle. It is an important part of the transmission of your audi car key cover since it sends information to the ECU regarding how fast or slowly the engine is spinning. If this sensor fails, it could cause problems for the transmission as well as the other car's components.

The G5 engine speed sensor is located on the edge of the transmission above the flywheel ring gear and sends a signal to the ECU at pin T55/49 via a grey wire. The ECU uses this signal to regulate fuel and boost, as well as timig. It also relays it to the G5 Tachometer in instrument cluster. You can determine if the sensor is in failure by examining the continuity of the sensor to the tachometer. Additionally, you can examine the continuity between pins T55/49 of the ECU and pin T6a/1 of the instrument cluster (trace [79]) and between pin T6a/1 and pin T26a/12. It should show around 1000 ohms of resistance between those points. This is the same across the audi a5 key fob 80-100-200-RS2 range, from the 1985 MC all the way up to the 1997 UrS An and replacement audi key cost Uk (prpack.ru) 1995 RS2 Du So, you may find good ones in wrecking yards.
