Season 5 of Apex Legends started today, and the patch notes are incredibly extensive. We have a new legend , new zones in King's Canyon, balance changes to Legends and weapons, and a brand new PVE game mode known as the Season Quest. There is also a new battle pass, a rotation to supply drops, and the return of one of the best hop-ups. Let's dive in.

Loba

Loba is the new Legend available this season. She is the daughter of 2 of Revenants victims, as seen in Revenants reveal trailer, and her life ever since has been an Inigo Montoya revenge mission. She found herself in the Apex Games while hunting Revenant and she brings with her an exciting tool hit.

Her tactical ability, Theif's Best Friend, is a short distance teleport. Loba throws her bracelet like a frisbee and instantly teleports wherever it lands. It has a 25 second cooldown and a long animation recovery, but it's a great tool for getting in and out of trouble.

Her passive ability, Eye For Quality, lets her see purple and gold items through walls. It can be pretty difficult to determine what the item is at a distance, and most of them are hop-ups, but it helps to know which buildings are best to loot.

Her ultimate ability, Black Market Boutique, creates a "death box" that draws in all the equipment in a wide range. Every player is allowed to take up to 2 items from the boutique. This ability is a great way to grab items quickly without having to search multiple buildings or death boxes.

King's Canyon Changes

There are a number of significant changes to King's Canyon and, having played it for a few hours, it feels like an entirely different map now.

Skull Town and Thunderdome have been demolished and a new POI, Salvage, has been added. Salvage is a high-tier loot location with only a couple points of entry, so it is well protected, even though it's relatively small. Players also have access to a portion of the lab the Loba destroyed in Season 5 trailer.

On the opposite side of the map, Relay has been replaced by The Rig, and https://Apexlegendsfans.com Wetlands has been replaced with Capacitor. These two remodeled zones completely change the flow of the map and offer higher tier loot than their predecessors. Capacitor is also at a much lower elevation than Wetlands once was, but is almost completely surrounded by walls.

The Leviathans have left and the all over the map the trees are starting to regrow. Look for new details and small changes in various locations like Containment and along the river south of repulsor.

Finally, new charge towers have been added across the map. These towers instantly charge the ult of any legend standing nearby. We haven't spotted all of them yet, but there is one in the new Capacitor zone to test out.

Balance Changes

A lot of major changes have been made to several legends and weapons. Mirage and Caustic received the biggest buffs, while Pathfinder received a devastating nerf.

Each of Mirage's abilities has been buffed in this patch. His decoy, which now lasts for 60 seconds, can be fully controlled. At first the decoy will still run in a straight line, but now Mirage is able to control him by pushing H. The copy will move exactly like Mirage. Similarly, the decoys that deploy when Mirage ults will also mimic his every move. Most significantly, Mirage now cloaks when using respawn beacons and cloak himself and downed allies when rezzing.

Caustic's gas no longer slows allies. That's really the only major change, but its significant enough that it will likely encourage more Caustic play.

Finally, poor Pathfinder's grapple has had its cooldown increased from 15 to 35 seconds. The developers explain in the patch notes that they don't think Pathfinder should be able to reposition so easily multiple times in a fight, and we tend to agree.

As for weapons, the new gold drops include the Longbow, Hemlock, Spitfire, EVA-8, and RE-45. The alternator has an increased mag size and the re-45 has a damage increase and a reload time decrease. For the full list of weapon changes, see here.

Supply Drop And Return Of The Skullpeircer

For the first time, the Mastiff is coming out of the supply drop and can be looted like a normal gun. In its place, the Peacekeeper is getting a buff and rotating into the supply drop.

The Mastiff has received a nerf to damage, fire rate, and spread. Fully kitted, it feels a lot like the original Mastiff though, and with an increased projectile speed the gun is going to be an absolute monster to play against.

Finally, the Skullpeircer hop-up is back, replacing the Anvil Receiver. The Skullpiercer can attach to the Wingman and Longbow and increases headshot damage. As if the Wingman wasn't deadly enough, right?

The Hunt Begins

We don't know much about the Season Quest, but we do know how it starts. As you loot, a small treasure will occasionally pop out of random chests. Players can collect 1 of these treasures every day and it instantly awards XP, Crafting Metals, or Apex packs. Every 5 Treasure Packs you collect will unlock the ability to play the weekly hunt, and new PVE mission.

A new hunt will unlock each week on Tuesday, with 9 in total across the season. That means you'll need to collect 45 Treasure Packs in order to access all 9 Hunts, or in other words, play at least 1 game for 45 days across the season.

The first hunt unlocks in 1 week, so the sooner you start collecting Treasure Packs, the better!
