In this video Charles the humble mechanic demonstrates how to replace the G28 engine speed sensor. This sensor is located near the edges of the transmission, above the flywheel ring gear. It transmits a signal the ECU via the grey wire (T55/49), then to the tachometer within the instrument cluster.

1. Engine Speed Sensor

The grey wire is located at the edges of the transmission, directly above the flywheel ring. This sensor sends a signal via the grey wire to pin T55/49. The ECU uses this information to regulate fuel and boost. It also sends signals to the G5 Tachometer located in the instrument cluster.

The sensor is used to correlate the G40 Camshaft position Sensor. The ecu needs to know when the crankshaft has reached TDC and also the location of the camshaft to trigger the spark and injectors.

If this sensor fails the ECU will show a P00160 code which means the Crank Shaft and Intake Camshaft aren't in sync and could indicate the chain is stretched or a jump link on the upper timing chain. However, the code won't appear on its own, without additional information from other sensors (G4 and G40).

It can be a bit difficult to test since there are several pins on the connector, and each has its own functions. The most effective method to test it is to measure the resistance between the ECU and Programming Audi Key the sensor. It should read around 1000 ohms when it is operating at its maximum. 2. Injectors

Yesterday, when accelerating from highway paytoll at maximum speed I noticed a massive reduction in power. It was as if the engine had run out of gas. Or my injectors weren't firing. I placed a tissue over each hole in the injector and when i turn the engine on without sparks, the ones that have gazoline pop right out. The 4th one remains closed. I checked the ground connection on ECU pins 14/55,30/55 and 48/55 I get 0ohm. Therefore, i think the issue is elsewhere.

I also tried to reset PID but without success. The car can start if the G28 is unplugged and it runs perfectly when it is connected, but still has the intermittent misfire issue at higher RPM. The coolant sensor (G62), even when it is unplugged, shows temperatures of -49c. I also noticed that the oil gauge in the cockpit shows 2 bars but the actual pressure is 0.

I'm not sure what to do. I believe that I've all other possibilities out. However, i'm afraid that I may have missed something. Let me know if you have any ideas! TIA!

3. Fuel Pump

The fuel pump on the g28 is activated by a signal sent by the RPM sensor. The GM-style sender is the same as the G4 and both function in the 80, 100 200, UrS and RS2 cars so you can easily find one at a wrecking yard or at a parts store. It is simple to test them to do - just put your DMM in resistance mode and measure between pins 1 (with the bump on the connector's side up) and 2 (2nd from the left on the black connector's end).
